New Knife Legislation Effective From 24^th September 2024

As from the 24^th September 2024, the sale and possession of certain knives and machetes will be/is prohibited Under The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) order 1988; Zombie Style Knives & Machetes.

The type and style of knives and machetes which are affected are detailed below:

A zombie-style knife or machete is defined as a bladed article with the following elements:

1. A plain cutting edge.
2. A sharp pointed end; and
3. A blade of over eight inches in length (measured from the tip to the top of the handle in a straight line).

To be a prohibited item it must also have one or more of the following features in addition to this basic specification, points 1, 2 & 3 do not quality without an/the addition(s).

A serrated cutting edge (other than one no longer than two inches next to the handle).

• More than one hole (of any shape) in the blade.
• Spikes.
• More than two sharp points in the blade

So you can purchase and posses a knife or machete of over 8 Inches providing that it has only one hole on the blade, of any size, no serrations other than of up to 2 inches which must be directly adjacent to the handle, a maximum of two points on the blade.

Knives which are up to and including 8 inches blade length are not included in the new legislation and may contain the features (1,2 & 3) listed above.

Be aware that possession at home or anywhere else within the United Kingdom is from the 24^th September a criminal offence. We cannot accept any return or handing in of any prohibited item.
